Hinton Estate Vineyard was established by premium pip and stone-fruit growers, Nigel and Elisabeth Hinton with their winemaker son Howie and his wife Sarah. Pinot noir was first planted in the late 1990s with the intention of complementing the family’s fifth generation orchard business. 20 hectares of vineyard has been established on steep north facing slopes where the terrain is too tough for summer fruit yet ideal for grapes. The winemaking philosophy matches that of the family’s orchard operation, where only perfect fruit is accepted. This ethos is based on growing quality grapes and enhancing natural flavour through the utilisation of simple, traditional winemaking techniques and the best innovation.
