Paringa Estate has just completed their 30th vintage – an impressive amount of years with a lot of stories to be told! We invited Lindsay McCall, founder and winemaker of Paringa Estate, to Sydney to hold a masterclass for some of our customers and local Sommeliers.
Tell us more about Paringa Estate.
Paringa Estate is located in the heart of Victoria's beautiful Mornington Peninsula wine region. The first vines were planted in 1985 and Paringa Estate has since grown into a well established and highly awarded winery.
What was Lindsay presenting at his masterclass?
Paringa Estate has just completed their 30th vintage and current vintages were showcased along with some back vintages which Lindsay dug from his personal cellar. This was a unique opportunity for our participants to taste wines from various vintages on the Peninsula and experience how the wines have progressed over time.
What kind of wines does Lindsay McCall produce?
Paringa Estate produces 3 Series of chardonnay, pinot noir and shiraz.
- The Peninsula Series comes from the Red Hill and Moorooduc sub regions which expresses the regions’ genuine varietal characteristics.
- The Estate Series showcases fruit from mature low yielding vines in Red Hill that produce powerful fruit flavours and the unique Paringa ‘style’ upon which their reputation as been built.
- The Paringa Series is made from the Estate's oldest vineyard expressing its true terroir resulting in wines of both power and elegance.
What did participants learn in the tasting?
A consensus on the tasting was the surprise in the quality of the entry level Peninsula series and the intensity and length provided by The Paringa single vineyard wines. The age ability of all the wines proved exceptional with the pinot noir still providing fruit driven characters 8 to 10 years down the track.
